Comet was founded in the German city of Bremerhaven in the 1930s, by Friedrich Wilhelm Sander who was a weapons engineer. The Pains Wessex Manoverboard MK9 Compact Lifebuoy Marker is normally mounted on a ship's bridge wing attached to a 4 kg lifebuoy. It is automatically or manually deployed to mark the position of a person in the water by day or night. Featuring a self-activated LED lighting system which exceeds SOLAS requirements for 2 candela light output and 2 hours duration, plus providing 15 minutes of dense orange smoke. Ships are required to fit at least two markers.

SOLAS requires one of these markers to be mounted on each bridge wing attached to a 4kg lifebuoy. Mounted in its steel bracket on each bridge wing attached to a lifebuoy. Signal can be mounted up to 56m above sea level. (SOLAS only requires>30m). Produces dense orange smoke for 15 minutes and 2 LED lights burn at 2 candela for 2 hours minimum. Signals location of a man overboard by day or night.
